Bi Weekly Meditation: Clearing Your Mind

Carry OMSo I realized that my meditations have recently been focusing on more practical day to day applications.  These are important, and these are often neglected a little when we’re focused on more spiritual meditations…but I realized I was going a little too much to the other side.  And we should strive for balance in all aspects of our life.

So let’s start with a more traditional meditation.  Clearing your mind.

Try to find some place dark, with few as few sounds as possible(although maybe a little soft classical or New Age type music if it helps you).  Sitting in the Lotus Position (or as close as you can get) with your arms out stretched, hands open and the thumb and first finger touching, eye closed, start by focusing only on one thing.  I would generally focus on the mantra “OM”, you can repeat it mentally or actually chant it as you go.  Be sure to take slow deep breaths.  Fill up your lungs and breath from the diaphragm, and through the nose, hold the breath in your lungs for a moment, breath out slowly through your mouth, and then hold for a moment before breathing in. Try to slow down your breath as much as possible again (ideally you would like to work up to only 2 breaths per minute, but this will likely not be possible if you haven’t been doing this for a while).

Again as you chant focus only on the chant “OM” and nothing else.  Random thoughts will intrude, and you’ll think about them for a while, but don’t worry.  When you recognize your mind has wandered just focus on “OM” again.   Don’t chide yourself or worry about the fact that your mind wandered, it’s okay, just go back to “OM”.  The more you do this the longer you will be able to hold the thought. The goal here is to clear your mind of all extraneous thoughts and focus on only one thing.

Ideally you should try to be able to do this for 20 minutes at a time.  It may take some time be build up to this.   But the more you do this the longer you’ll be able to focus on a single thought.  The longer you can focus on a single thought the more you’ll find yourself connected to higher realms, you’ll find your thinking clearer, your energy higher, your happiness in general raised.

And if you can here’s a variation you can try if you can spare may be a few five minute spot throughout the day.   Instead of the simple chant of OM you can focus on each chakra with it’s own mantra.  Start the morning with a quick mediation on your root chakra work your way up throughout the day ending with an evening meditation on your crown chakra.

  • “YAM”- Chakra 4 (Heart)
  • “HAM”- Chakra 5 (Throat)
  • “AUM”- Chakra 6 (Third Eye)
  • “OM”- Chakra 7 (Crown)

Weekly meditation: Balancing the chakras


To one degree or another we have gone other the seven chakras that run along your spine and into your head. This week it’s time to stop looking at them as separate things, but rather as a single system of energy that connects you to the world and to Heaven.

So this week we’ll focus on all of the chakras. Sitting in the lotus position (or as close as you can get to it comfortably) clear you mind, and then focus on the chakras going up you spine. With each chakra focus on it, see it bright, large and spinning quickly and repeat the following series of mantras, one for each chakra. Start at your root chakra and work you way up seeing and feeling the energy move up your spine your mind’s eyes. When you reach the crown chakra focus on it’s mantra for a minute seeing a direct connection of that energy at the top of your skull connected to Heaven and God. Then work you way back down the chakras.

If you can do this once in the morning and once in the evening this should help to focus the energy of all your chakras and extend those positive vibrations into your life.

First Chakra. My life is filled with abundance, safety and prosperity
Second Chakra. My emotional are balanced and in tune with light of Heaven
Third Chakra. My will is strong and one with God’s
Fourth Chakra. I love and am loved and know the love of God
Fifth Chakra. I speak and create beauty and truth inspired by God
Sixth Chakra. I see the complete truth and the now through the light of God
Seventh Chakra. I am one with God

Weekly Meditation: A Crown Chakra Mantra

This is going to seem cliche…but the mantra to chant to increase the energy of the seventh chakra is chanting “Om”.  (As with all of this mantra you should make this into three sounds, with the O first coming from the back the throat and then from the front mouth, followed by the m sound from the lips).


Sitting in the lotus position hold your hands out, finger locked, thumbs one on top of the other.  Extend your pinkies out and have them touch and then chant “Om.”  While doing this envision not just the amethyst colored chakra at the top of your head…but if you can all seven chakras over the whole length of your spine.  If you can envision all of them spinning and bright while chanting it should help to improve the balance and energy of all of them.

Weekly Meditation: The Seventh Chakra and God

As we continue our meditations through the whole system of chakra we have come to the 7th chakra, the chakra most about our connection to the divine. Western belief would call this connection the Holy Spirit, but whatever you call it, it is the acknowledgement that we are all personally attached to God and he to us. And when you are perfectly balanced and brimming with energy in all of your chakras you will be able to touch that miraculous image

This week we will work on this connection. Sitting in the lotus position focus on the following lines taken from the workbook of A Course in Miracles:

God Is In Everything I See Because God Is In My Mind.

My Mind Is Part Of God’s. I Am Very Holy.

I Am Blessed As A Son Of God.

God Is The Light In Which I See.

God Is The Love In Which I Forgive.

God’s Voice Speaks To Me All Through The Day.


Repeat these words to yourself as you sit and meditate upon them for 15 minutes every day (or if you can 15 minutes in the morning after waking and 15 minutes before going to bed).

As you do this, it should not only increase the energy of your 7th chakra but help to the energy level and balance of your other six chakras.

Weekly Meditation: Sixth Charka Listening

I’m going with a bit of a stretch here.  The sixth chakra is the chakra out our third eye, that is it is a chakra that deals more with sight in a spiritual sense than a literal sense, which is why I don’t have a lot meditations about looking at bright and shinny pictures.  However it is also the chakra of any form of higher intuition and has also been associated with one’s ears (although I’ve read other sources that have a separate chakra for the ear…hell, I’ve seen sources that list dozens upon dozens of chakra…the point is let’s not get nit-picky and just go with this as a 6th Chakra meditation)…so let’s work on not only seeing the truth in all things but hearing the truth.

This might be a little more difficult to do depending on your schedule, where you live and your life style, but I want you to just quietly meditate.  The catch, and you knew there would be one, is I want you to spend 15 minutes sitting (preferably lotus position) in a dark quiet place during the most quiet part of the day you can get the time (Right before bed or immediately after waking up might be a good call).  And now focus on everything you hear..this is why I want it to be quiet so you are paying attention to the silence.  Try not to think about anything just focus on the silence.  This will help you clear your mind and listen to yourself at a deeper level.
